The Portland State University Farmers Market is the big one. If you’ve lived in Portland for a while, you’ve probably ended up here at least a few Saturdays every summer. The South Park Blocks completely transform into rows of produce stands, food vendors, flowers, baked goods, and some of the best people watching in the city.
The must-grab items change throughout the season, but heirloom tomatoes, marionberries, cherries, and peaches are usually worth showing up early for. Groundwork Organics and Kiyokawa Family Orchards always pull a crowd for a reason. If you’re hungry, grab mole from Verde Cocina or deep-dish pizza from Via Chicago before walking the rest of the market.
Shemanski Park Farmers Market
Location: 1010 SW Park Ave, Portland, OR 97205
Hours: Wednesdays, 10 am – 2 pm
Shemanski Park Market feels smaller and more relaxed compared to PSU, which honestly makes it easier on a busy weekday. It sits downtown behind the Schnitz, and you’ll see office workers, students, locals, and chefs all mixing together around lunchtime.
This is one of those markets where you can stop in quickly and still leave with great produce and lunch. The pears, squash, and seasonal greens are usually excellent, and Taste of Old Poland is one of the first stops many regulars make for pierogies and kielbasa. Eat Simply by Dora is another solid move if you want dessert for later.
Talarico’s Produce

Hours: Monday – Sunday, 9 am – 6 pm
Talarico’s Produce on Hawthorne feels like the neighborhood produce stand everyone wishes they had nearby. It’s simple, affordable, and packed with genuinely fresh fruits and vegetables. No giant grocery store energy. No hunting through bad produce bins.
The best part is how seasonal everything feels. During summer, the berries, stone fruit, tomatoes, and herbs are consistently good. Locals also love that the produce is labeled by origin, so you actually know how local your food is.
Lee Farms
Location: 21975 SW 65th Ave, Tualatin, OR 97062
Hours: Wednesday – Sunday, 9 am – 5 pm
Lee Farms out in Tualatin is one of those places families keep coming back to year after year. It has a more full-day experience feel compared to the city markets, especially during festival season.
The bakery is a huge reason people go. Fresh donuts, pies, and baked goods pull people in immediately. Summer is especially good during berry season and the sunflower festival. Fall gets crowded fast for obvious reasons, but summer might actually be the sweet spot if you want fewer crowds and great produce.
Hillsdale Farmers Market
Location: 1405 SW Vermont St, Portland, OR 97219
Hours: Sunday, 9 am – 1 pm
The Hillsdale Farmers Market has one of the strongest neighborhood followings in Portland. It runs year-round, and people in Southwest Portland are serious about it.
This market does a great job balancing produce, meat, flowers, baked goods, and ready-to-eat food without feeling overwhelming. You can pick up seasonal berries, local cheeses, fresh bread, native plants, and herbs all in one trip. The flower stands are especially good during the summer.
Sauvie Island Farms
Location: 19818 NW Sauvie Island Rd, Portland, OR 97231
Hours: Monday – Saturday, 8 am – 6 pm
Sauvie Island Farms is one of the best summer activities around Portland if you actually want to experience where your food comes from. You pick your own berries, flowers, peaches, herbs, and vegetables right out of the field.
The blueberries and marionberries are especially popular, and the peach orchard is worth the drive alone once the fruit is ready. A lot of locals bring kids out here during the summer because it feels easy and low-pressure. Go earlier in the day if you can, since Sauvie Island gets hot in peak summer, and weekends fill up quickly.
